Our client-partners are very good at what they do – and many of them have earned some serious industry props in the past several months.
Sheetz, the innovative and forward-thinking chain headquartered in Altoona, PA now in its 65th year of operation, was named Convenience Store Decisions magazine’s 2017 Chain of the Year, becoming the first two-time winner.
In announcing the award, Convenience Store Decision’s Editor-In-Chief John Lofstock wrote: “Sheetz remains a beacon of innovation that every convenience store chain can admire, at a time when big corporations are trying to gain a larger foothold in the convenience store industry.”
The company founded by Bob Sheetz in 1952 is now under the direction of his nephew Joe Sheetz, President/CEO, and his son Stan, Chairman. The company is a leader in the drive to amend Pennsylvania’s Prohibition-era alcohol laws and allow sales in convenience stores. Sheetz operates 550 stores in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina.
Rutter’s Farm Stores of York, PA boasts a transformational Foodservice Operation under the direction Ryan Krebs. A one-time executive and corporate chef, Krebs joined Rutter’s four years ago and was honored as the Convenience Store News 2017 Foodservice Leader of the Year at the 2017 CSNews Convenience Foodservice & Beverage Exchange held Sept. 12-13 in Chicago.
With full backing of the company, Krebs has pushed the boundaries of convenience store fare.
“We have induction woks, cannoli, and tiramisu. And if we can do it, then others can too. It’s about growing the industry because there are so many competitors now outside of convenience,” Krebs told CSNews.
Since beginning his career as a developer at Kwik Trip, Inc. 23 years ago, Tom Colbert has overseen the evolution of technology from a way to simplify operations into an absolutely essential component for success in the convenience store industry. He has been named 2017 Technology Leader of the Year by Convenience Store News.
In an interview with CSNews, Colbert said: “It has become quite complicated with many more integrated parts and dependencies. There are many days I miss the simplicity of the past, but the way technology continues to help all of the business units here at Kwik Trip and as their demand for technology grows, it is full steam ahead.”
One dozen Nexxus clients earned their way onto the National Retail Federation’s Stores Magazine Hot 100 for 2017. They were: No. 6 CST Brands (purchased earlier this year by Alimentation Couche-Tard), No. 26 Kwik Trip, No. 28 Murphy USA, No. 47 Dollar General, No. 55 Casey’s General Stores, No. 61 CEFCO Convenience Stores, No. 65 Sheetz, No. 66 Kroger, No. 81 Wawa, No. 84 Brookshire Brothers, No. 85 7-Eleven and No. 94 Discount Drug Mart.
“While a tremendous amount of volume is still generated from big boxes, retail channels such as online, discount, club, drug and convenience are powering accelerated growth,” Andrew Stockwell of Kantar Retail, which compiled the list for NRF, said in a press release.
Another 11 Nexxus client partners earned spots on the Stores Magazine Top 100 for 2017 rankings with No. 1 Walmart, No. 2 Kroger and No. 6 Walgreens Boots Alliance cracking the Top 10. No. 20 Dollar General, No. 21 HEB Grocery, No. 26 Meijer, No. 29 Starbuck, No. 31 7-Eleven, No. 60 Alimentation Couche-Tard, No. 83 Speedway and No. 97 Stater Bros. also made the list.
