April 2016 Newsletter: Nexxus Group’s Colby Kidder runs Boston Marathon

In The Spotlight

ColbyMarathonThe Boston Marathon is loved in Massachusetts and beyond and the Nexxus Group® family had a rooting interest in the event’s 120th running on Monday, April 18 as our own Colby Kidder tackled the 26.2-mile course for charity, raising $5,200 for the South Boston Neighborhood House.

Colby Kidder was one of nearly 27,000 finishers in the world’s oldest continuously run marathon, which dates back to 1897. He completed his first-ever marathon over the famously hilly course in a time of four hours, 41 minutes and three seconds, calling it “one of the biggest challenges I have ever had.”

“Not only is the course physically and mentally demanding but you must train in the winter and be committed to running in 20-30 degree weather four times a week!  Also you must overcome the nagging injuries along the way which do happen when you are running 10-20 miles every Saturday,” said Colby Kidder, a Reporting & Applications Specialist for Nexxus.

His charity of choice, South Boston Neighborhood House (SBNH), is the oldest continuously-operated community based non-profit in South Boston, in operation for 113 years. The multi-service agency directly impacts the lives of 2,000 individuals each year, from infants to nonagenarians. SBNH works to strengthen family and community through education and opportunity, offering Early Education & Care, School Age, Education & Career Development, Senior “Jet Set”, and Family Engagement programs.

Kidder experienced a wide range of emotions during the race.

I went from being excited at the starting line, to determination (around Mile 17 ) to get to that finish line, to shedding a tear when I reached Boylston Street for that (final) .2 miles. There is no way I would have been able to do this without the support of my family, my Nexxus family, and friends along the way,” he said.

Would he do it again? “This may have been a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but you never know.”
